Murchison Community Care Inc.Murchison Community Care was formed on 22nd January 1997 and is a non-profit charitable organisation incorporated under the Victorian Incorporation Act 1981. It is an approved nursing home operator with the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing.
Originally a Bush Nursing Hospital was founded in 1934 and the D P Jones Nursing Home was built by the Bush Nursing Hospital committee and officially opened on 12th March 1982. The nursing home has operated as an independent facility since 1986.
With the closing of the acute hospital in April 1995 and the need to maximise the operations to provide as wide a range of services as possible the two organisation's agreed to amalgamate to form Murchison Community Care Inc.
Today we have a 40 bed aged care facility, a Medical Centre which provides rooms for the doctor and other visiting services and Murchison and District Neighbourhood House operates from the former Bush Nursing Hospital. Maternal and Child Health also operate out of this building. There is a community bus which is available for health, education and recreational purposes. D P Jones Nursing Home offers high and low level aged care accommodation with ensuite bathrooms in a 40 bed complex which is suitable for residents who require constant staff supervision and support. There are 26 single and 7 double rooms with generous sitting and dinning areas.
Prior to admittance applicants are required to be assessed and approved as needing permanent residential care by the Aged Care Assessment Service (A.C.A.S.). When vacancies occur the position is offered to the applicant considered in most need.
Murchison & District Neighbourhood House offers a wide range of activities and programs including.
VOLUNTEERS
There are many opportunities for volunteers within Murchison Community Care - D P Jones Nursing Home, providing and arranging flowers, resident activities, meals on wheels, bus driving.
Neighbourhood House, assisting or running programs, pre loved shop.
