Murchison and District Neighbourhood House
Murchison & District Neighbourhood House developed as the result of a needs survey conducted in 1998. It is managed by a locally based committee and is under the auspice of Murchison Community Care Incorporated. The House has been active since February 1999.
Its mission is to provide a safe and welcoming place, where people of all ages can gather together for social and recreational activities, and educational and health programs. Murchison & District Neighbourhood House operates as a not for profit organisation with a commitment to the principles of equity, access, participation and the rights of the individual.
A major focus of the House is community development both in community projects and in empowering individuals to work more effectively for their community.
A wide range of craft, leisure, health and wellbeing, skills development and children's activities are offered at the House. A program is published each term. In addition, outside agencies and community groups regularly offer courses and run activities at the House.
The House has a toy library, a book library and a well-stocked Pre-Loved Shop. The latter offers primarily clothing and house wares. Photocopying, laminating, secretarial services and room hire are available at very competitive rates. The House has a modern computer centre used for classes and training but also providing public Internet access and/or computer time hire for individuals.
The House is also the venue for family day care, Maternal and Child Health Care and immunisations provided by the City of Greater Shepparton.
